Hood River Zero

Rate this book
From USA Today bestselling author K Webster comes a forbidden, friends to lovers romance called Hood River Zero!

She sees the darkness inside that I’m trying desperately to hide from everyone.
Pokes. Prods. Infuriates.
This girl won’t stop until she’s touched every scar, both inside and out.

I’m not sure how I’m supposed to mentally heal and be a better man when I have the most unapologetic, unpopular mean girl shining her light into every dark crevice inside me.

Annoying. A nuisance. Not worth my time.
I’ll shake her off eventually.
She’s nothing to me.
A Hood River zero.

Try telling my heart that…

***Full-blurb still to come.***

This is a full-length high school friends-to-lovers, forbidden, and new adult romance with high angst, suspense, and gutting emotion. It's book four in the Hood River Hoodlum series that all have interlinking storylines. 'HOOD RIVER ZERO' is the fourth and final full length romance book in K. Webster's 'Hood River Hoodlums' series. It picks up where the third book dramatically left off.
A
It doesn't happen often but every once in awhile you read a series that is SO PHENOMENAL & ALL CONSUMING that it sets itself on a high pedestal from every other book you've read! And this series for me did exactly that!!

Penny our heroine was such a unique character, she had quirks, she was unfiltered and crass, standoffish and gruff, she could be outright rude and unforgiving but what you don't know about Penny is that she suffers in silence the only thing to settle her unquiet mind was white noise. Noises. I hate them. Breathing. Coughing. Sneezing. Tapping. Snapping. Crunching. Chewing. But, when it comes to Terrence, I don't hate his noises at all. She hated to be touched and you didn't know what was going to set her off, her behaviour could be beyond erratic but get her on a basketball court and she dominated the game. This was the only time you'd see her calm and focused.

29831066-SY540

Terrence saw all her little quirks. Whatever goes on inside Penny's head is epic and destructive. It tears her down. He also picked up on how much she hid herself from others, and that sounds effected her wellbeing.

1

Terrence had not long come out of a coma, when he did come out of it everyone treated him with kids gloves, but not Penny, she told it exactly how she saw it, and all was unfiltered but delivered in such a Penny way. Being offered a job as a basketball coach teaching what he loved gave him a new meaning in life, a sense of self worth. But his road to recovery was going to be a long one.

He knew how forbidden it was to go against boy code and getting involved with Penny being that she's Hollis' little sister but she made it hard for him to walk away, she crawled under his skin and wouldn't get out. The more time they spent together allowed the attraction to manifest, it sizzled and simmered in the background. Laying claim to the other. These two were imperfectly imperfect but perfect for each other. Both a little bit broken. But slowly we see Penny letting down all her walls when she's around Terrence.

As a whole this series is just amazing. Seriously guys if you've not read it, get one clicking and binge read. Highly recommended by yours truly!! This became one of my most favourite series of all time. Every single box was ticked, every single feeling was wrung out of me, every single character has got a special place in my heart.

Scars aren’t always on the outside, but they usually tell a story of a battle the person has fought and won.

Told in dual POV, 1st person, it’s the fourth and last installment in the "Hood River Hoodlums" series and should be read in order. I liked this series but unfortunately, this one was the least enjoyable one. Penny was too tough for my taste. Don’t get me wrong, I like strong, stubborn women, tough ones but Penny had too much of them. It was like she didn’t need anyone in her life, someone to rely on. It was her who protects others. And about her personality? Sometimes she was irritating with the words that came out of her mouth! To sum it up she was too much, in everything! Overall, it didn’t live up to my expectations, and hope you enjoy it more than me!

The Hoodlums strike again!

This book is not a standalone. PLEASE listen to me. NOT A STANDALONE. None of these books are standalone. They feed into each other. I need you to trust me here. None of you want to enter this great world anywhere but at the beginning. #trust

You guys … this series was one heck of a ride! I could not wait for each of the books to publish. These kids/adults had me at hello! Every single one! But Zero , she was something special. Sometimes, and these times are rare, I can feel a character in a book to the bottom of my soul. I felt this chic to my bones and beyond. I related to her, not because I have even an ounce of her strength and endurance and perseverance, no, because I know her. There were times this story was a little tough for me because of personal life circumstances, but every plot point made my heart soar.

The relationship between Zero and Terrence was a thing of beauty to read. Two people with so perfectly matched it brought tears to my eyes on more than one occasion. They got each other. They felt each other. They knew each other on a level above the physical and mental. They saw each other.

There is quite a bit of activity in this story, but not more so than any of the other stories. These hoodlums (and none-hoodlums lol) have highly active lives and it all flows from one book to the next seamlessly. I feel like I read an entire lifetime yet their lives have just begun! I was super stoked to read the author notes at the end because it means we don’t really have to say goodbye just yet :)

"Scars aren't always on the otside, but they usually tell a story of a battle the person has fought and won."

This was an amazing series and everyone needs to read these books!!!
I'm kinda sad that this journey came to an end, but K. promised more to come and I'm so excited about it!!!
Well, I love the Hoodlums and the English family sooo much!!!! I'm so happy that i had met them and i will never forget them!!!
Penny and Terrence had stolen the stage and their journey was epic!!!
Of course, i have to warn you about something... Hood River is a dangerous place to live in!!!! Bahaha...

"Fate's got fuckin' jokes. Teasing you with a future, dangling it right in front of you, but letting you be blind to it until the right time."

The book picked up exactly where it left us in the previous book, but with different characters on the spotlight...
Terrence had a tragic accident in the previous books.... He was young, healthy, full of life and then, he wasn't and that left him a little bit broken, not only on body, but on mind and soul as well...
Penny was a mouthy, unfiltered brat and i loved her so much for that...
She was giving shit to everyone and especially to Terrence, but she wasn't who you could thought she was...
She was much more and she just needed some quiet... Quiet that nobody was giving her....

"You're not good, Smash. You're broken. Sometimes you have to rely on others if you want to fix yourself."
"Can I rely on you?"

"She's armed with a sharp tongue and more sass than I'll ever know what to do with."

Well, these two couldn't be more opposite in every aspect, but they were fitting perfectly together...
Yep, he was black and she was white... Yep, they were having a big age gap....
But they could recognize the darkness inside on each other and they were the only person that could poor a little bit light in this dark place inside of them....
Of course, it wasn't so easy to be together.... It never is! Right???

"I'm not going to survive her. I can feel it in my bones. I'm going to do something regrettable -something that breaks the Hoodlum code."

"I'm filled with his heat and it melts a little ice off my soul. It makes me wonder if Terrence has the ability to heal me. To draw me out of my head completely so I can exist normally within the world."

Well, of course in here, there were new troubles to be faced....
I can't not decide if Penny was stupid or really brave that she walked in the lion's den willingly, but i will go with Penny had a great heart, even though she was making poor choices that were putting her on harm's way!!!!
Terrence was struggling to put his life back on track and Penny was breathing life back to him... But he could see the girl behind the mask and he wanted to be the one to help her real self come out to play with him...
These two were sooo good together!!!!

"I like him.
I want him.
I just don't know how to get him.
He's eager and ready, seemingly desperate to be a part of my world. I wish I could give it to him. I know, though, it's not that easy. Because of me. My mind is a fucking mess."

"Her words sometimes feel like whips, but I'm learning it's a defense mechanism. She's soft inside, you just have to take a verbal beating in order to know that part of her. I can handle a little mental whoop ass."

Of course, i loved seeing the rest of the other characters of the book...
I can't believe that i'm saying it, but Garrett had stolen a part of my heart in the last two books...
And Jace... OMG!!! Jace is a force on his own!!! Love this guy and i love his weird relationship with Penny sooooo much!!!
Yes!!! I need more of this crew!!!! That's the honest truth!!!

"You're unique, Penny English. A one of a kind bitch."
"You're such a master with words, pet. Put that on my birthday cake."
"Deal."

I adore Penny's tell-it-like-it-is attitude. She always made me laugh out loud in the other books. I loved her in this one too, that was no exception.

I don't know what happened to the Hood River Heroes series that is/was supposed to be coming but I'm gunna need it. Ngl I kind of want a Jace/Loden MM book and a Garrett/Tierra MF one. But it'll probably be about the kids. Meh. LOL.

This series was done very well. I encourage you to try it. Each book was so unique yet they tied together nicely. Lots of emotions, but in all I want to say this series is about regular people. The events are so common, but the way K executed the delivery was genius. I am glad to know there will be more books coming in a spin-off.

I was so looking forward to this book after reading the previous one because my girl Penny cracks me up with her sassy/bitchy attitude but you can tell that loyalty and a big heart hide behind her icy exterior.
So is it any surprise that this one turned out to be my favorite of this series?
I loved to see the plot evolve through the series and all characters with it. There are a lot of common themes explored such as: abuse, assault, murder, rape, arson, getting justice, overcoming horrible life situations, true friendship, strength as a family and finding love. Each book told not only the story of the main couple but furthered the plot for all Hoodlums and it has been an overall very nice reading experience. I will miss these characters!

Hood River Zero follows the main characters Penny (Hollis and Charlotte's youngest sister) and Terrence (one of the Hoodlums boys).
We saw the first glimpse in their relationship in the previous book, where Penny's no fucks given attitude actually helped Terrence to start to deal with life after his coma.

I laughed quite a lot with this book and I couldn't help it cause I find Penny extremely funny. I liked both characters a lot and looking back at this series I'd say that Penny is my favorite heroine but Cal (from the previous book) is my favorite hero. No worries, Terrence is a close second.

We get some insight into why Penny behaves the way she does, how Terrence copes with the fallout of the accident, them two growing closer and closer cause they have some similar health issues, him getting a job as the coach of her basketball high-school team, him finding out he has a daughter and trying to save her from the clutches of a deranged step grandpa.

This books packs a lot of drama as well as the other books but also a lot of hope. Penny is a very brave, yet sometimes foolish character but she doesn't take sh*t from anybody and that is extremely empowering.
I liked the romance the most in this last book, Penny's loyalty and Terrence's care for her.

Not a 5-star read because it was yet again another student-teacher relationship where no one at school knew or did anything about it, although they weren't exactly hiding and I have an issue with all couples getting married and having kids right after high school.

So my two favorite Hood River Hoodlums books ended up being the first and the last. But frankly, I pretty much only read books two and three in order to be able to read book 4.

Penny’s a bitch and I loved ever second of it. Just like the rest of the series, everything is OTT and what could go wrong, does go wrong.

Would recommend if you like
-fast pacing
-spice
-dawson’s creek w the volume turned up

Also, I’m left here wondering—what’s gonna happen w Tierra?? Like we got no resolve w that one smh. But apparently there’s a spin-off series called hood river heroes… maybe she’s in that.

ALL MY REVIEWS CAN BE FOUND ON MY BLOG: ABSTRACT BOOKS

"I realize, for the first time, I miss a sound. The sound of his voice. Something’s happening to me."

'Hood River Zero' is the fourth book of the fabulous series 'Hood River Hoodlums' by the best selling author K. Webster. Told in dual perspectives, this book covered all the aspects of being so
Swoon-worthy and full of angst!

From the moment I read at the end of the third book of the series , that Penny will be getting a book , I was beyond escalated!! Of all the characters ,Penny was my absolute favourite ❤️.

The story of Terrance and Penny was everything you would want in a love story , it had Heartbreak and all the swoony moments that would have any girl drooling! The author has done an amazing job of wiping up these series.

Penny has to be one of the most complicated characters I have ever read. She is not the usual bubbly girl characters that most books contain. She has issues , deep issues that make her hate being touched . She has the most sharpest tongue I have ever seen and her replies and come backs had me laughing so much. Terrance was the gentle one between these two. Penny was the storm and he was the calm to her storm. She hated noises , but somehow loved his. She found peace being near him , which was the greatest gift he could ever give her.

"It’s Penny, for fuck’s sake. Bratty, annoying, mean-ass Penny. God sure did make her fucking pretty to mess with my head."

The connection these two characters had was so amazing that it had me gulping down sobs every time they both came near each other. Penny was such a badass but the way she melted by being near Terrace was so damn sweet. I was so sad to see that this was the last book of this series , but then the author gave me a huge surprise by declaring that there may be a spin-off series and now I can't contain my excitement!!!!

Not just this book , but this while series is a must read by everyone. Every book is different from the other and each one had different genres. The genres vary from bully to MM romance too!! Any one who is yearning for a bit dark but fun loving read , should definitely try these Series!

RECAP:
Hood River Rat ➵ Hollis and Roan; only M/M book in this series
Little Hoodlum ➵ Jordy and Roux
Campfire Chaos ➵ Cal and Charlotte
Hood River Zero ➵ Terrence and Penny; last book in the Hood River Hoodlum series
DISCLAIMER - This series should be read in order as plot lines from previous books are brought up in the next book/continue throughout the series

NOT A STANDALONE. REPEAT. DO NOT READ AS A STANDALONE

Terrence is currently recovering still from the horrible life-altering accident. He is struggling not only physically but emotionally to come to terms with how the accident has changed him. However, he is very stubborn and wants to deal on his own with no more helpful hands. Although he is greatly appreciative of the help and support he has had through his recovery process post-accident, he wants to embark on a new chapter of his life and do for himself. Though life, has other plans and throws another twist into his life. When at the doctor's, he sees a little girl who looks so much him. It's then he realizes he has a kid, he never knew about. With some digging (of course with the help of Penny), he confirms the time frame and pursues legal help to gain custody of his daughter as Jack "Jackoff" Henderson is the one taking care of her. Lacey, who is the mother, is MIA and now more than ever he needs to find Lacey to confirm many pieces of this story and help him gain custody.

Although Terrence has a lot on his plate, he is giving his all to try to break Penny's wall down. Penny is the youngest of the English clan and has been described as being distant, cold, a b*itch, and "wired differently" than the rest of the Hoodlums/world. Penny has walls that appear to be impenetrable, but Terrence "sees" through and is able to chisel piece by piece a part of her wall.

“It’s okay, Zero. I see you.”

There are a lot of twists and turns in this story and Penny gets tangled up in many of them such as keeping an eye on/helping Terrence's daughter, the mystery surrounding Lacey, and the group of boys who have targeted Penny due to her sister's past with Ryan. But, Penny is so strong that she will fight even with tears streaming down her face. She is feisty, fierce, and well a force to be reckon with! I overall enjoyed her character development and the banter she has with Terrence and secondary characters in the book.

Opinion Overall: One thing that I loved was there was no plot holes from the previous books. This last book aligned with where the previous characters left off; overall there was consistency with the plots from the previous books. I also liked the updates on what the other Hoodlums were up to! The one thing I was a little meh on was I felt some of the conflicts in the story were a "rinse and repeat" from the previous books. Charlotte is a person who dealt with a lot of abuse and it was discussed in-depth in her respective book. I felt that the sexual assault story line for her younger sister, Penny, was similar to Char's story line. They handled trauma from abuse differently as Penny was more vengeful and fought back more, whereas Charlotte was docile and closed off on it. There is also the same plot throughout all the books of fires occurring during a major event in the story. Bottom line, I got tired of seeing these same plots keep occurring in this series. Lastly, I adored Zella; she was adventurous, sweet, quiet. I also enjoyed seeing Terrence and Penny come together as they were broken in their own way and dealing with their own issues; yet, they got each other in such a deeper soul connecting way. They felt each other. They understood each other in a way no one else could. Overall, this was a 3.5 stars read for me!

Trigger Warnings: child abuse, attempted rape, sexual assault, physical abuse

Once Hoodlum’s playboy, now a shell of the man he used to be after a devastating accident. Terrence James wants so much to get back to the way he was but doesn’t know how. That’s where Penny English comes in. She is one tough cookie and not going to let Terrence wallow in his misery. Can she show him his life isn’t over and scars don’t change the person within? Can he help quiet the chaos that she has in her mind? When he is offered a job coaching basketball, he just might find more than he bargained for on this team! There is so much happening is this final book of the hoodlum series and I loved every minute of it! I love how strong Terrence is whether he knows it or not. This whole series was a breath of fresh air and I hope a few side characters from the series also get a book. ;) This is a wonderful, emotional romance but still has action, secrets, and a few possible triggers for some. Don’t miss out on this beautiful story of acceptance and healing! Side Note: if you loved My Torin, you’re going to love this one! A perfect ending to the series! Told in dual POV

Hood River ending

This was a great book to end the series on. It changed so much from Hollis and Roan's bully romance story, to a much darker series.

We do get a different villain in the form of Jack Henderson, the father of Lacey who has been mentioned in previous books. Turns out Terrance got her pregnant a couple years ago and then she disappeared. Now her father Jack is the childs' guardian and they're in Hood River.

On the one hand, it's the same 'realising you knocked someone up years ago and now there's a kid you didn't know about' plot from book 2 where Sebban was introduced for Roan. On the other hand, it's done so much better this time around. There's tension, there's consequences, and there's a mystery with what happened to Lacey.

Unfortunately Penny gets involved in this drama and more assault happens. But through all the dramas, Terrance and Penny are SO GOOD together! Their personalities compliment each other so well and their relationship feels real. They depend on each other in a way the other Hoodlum couples didn't, and they're honestly my favourite pairing of the series.

I'd weirdly be into a spin-off series set years later with the baby-Hoodlums all grown up. Kind of like L.J. Shen's 'All Saints High' series.

description

Hood River Zero is the fourth installment in the Hood River Hoodlums series, concluding the Hoodlums story with Terrence James & Penny English in an emotional friends to lovers, forbidden romance. Things are finally looking up for Terrence after the accident that almost took his life, one mouthy mean girl could be the very element missing in the life he never knew he wanted. But Penny isn’t just hard to get, she’s impossible.....good thing Terrence isn’t one to give up so easily.

To be at the end of one of my most beloved and favorite series of 2020 (and of all time) is bittersweet....
description
.....I was excited to finally get Terrence’s story since he’s the biggest mystery to me and to catch up with the rest of the Hoodlums, but I was sad it was ending. One thing is certain though, she sure knows how to go out with a bang. Through Terrence & Penny, Webster delivers the most beautifully written & heart-wrecking installment of the series.....one I was so intensely invested in that I had no control over the emotions it brought out of me. Penny is the kind of heroine that many try to write but rarely actually succeed in creating and Terrence is the kind of male lead that’s impossible not to love wholeheartedly, and their story? It’s one that will stay with me for a long time, that’s how deeply it impacted me.

Book Facts:
Told in: Dual POV, all present day with some time jumps to progress the story along.
Type? Interconnected story of a new couple but continuing an overall storyline featuring all the characters. It cannot be read as a stand-alone.
Triggers: Attempted rape, sexual assault, references to child abuse (physical and emotional), graphic violence/assault.
Ends in: HEA ending with extended epilogue featuring all couples from the series (& a special announcement/surprise at the end).

The Main Players:
Terrence James: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Hood River Hoodlum & Cal’s best friend, girls HS basketball coach, scarred/damaged (inside & out), forever altered, determined, protective, understanding, tender/gentle, funny, patient.
“All I ever ask is for the truth, Penny. That wall you put up can be for everyone else, but not me. You want us to be together? Then I need this from you. Your truths don’t hurt. It’s the lies that do.”

Penny English: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Hollis & Charlotte’s little sister, star basketball player, unpopular, unapologetic, mean, mouthy, guarded, strong, tough, hero, survivor, stubborn, funny, grumpy.
“When did everyone turn into Hoodlums around here?” She points at Jordy and then me. “OG Hoodlums. Roux is Little Hoodlum.” She flutters her fingers at Charlotte and Loden. “Barbie Hoodlum and her sidekick Gay Ken Hoodlum.” They both crack up. “What about me?” Jace asks, smirking. “Like you don’t know you’re Daddy Hoodlum, pet.” She rolls her eyes and then points at her dad. “Wannabe Mayor Hoodlum.” He snorts out a laugh. “Rockford Reject Hoodlum.”

What Worked:
Penny: I’m usually not a fan of the cold/frigid mean girl heroine, but Penny is the exception. It’s in her delivery of the things she says and the reasons behind it that make her different. Most of the time, she’s absolutely hilarious.....
“Make like a tree and get the fuck off my car,” Penny says. That’s not how the saying goes, but Penny makes up her own shit.
description
But what made her the easy fave female of the series was her fearlessness, bravery, and fighting spirit that shined bright anytime she found herself the “victim” or needed to do some saving. She isn’t a princess or even a queen....
“I’m not a queen,” she says, her voice fierce. Gripping her thighs, I dip down and drag my tongue along her slit. “Nah, baby, you’re a Hoodlum like me.”
description
......she is proof that the role of the knight isn’t just exclusive to the boys. I’m OBSESSED with her.

Terrence: This series has been filled with lovable male leads and Jordy will always be at the top....but Terrence was a rare specimen in his own right. He is so tender, patient, and understanding....so protective and loving with Penny. She doesn’t make it easy for him and considering everything life has thrown at him (and continues to in this book) you wouldn’t blame him for throwing in the towel.....
Me: I’m difficult to love. Smash: You can repeat the lies you tell yourself all you want, Penny, but I sure as fuck can’t hear them.
description
......yet he never loses his cool or sees her as anything less than worth every ounce of work he has to put in. I LOVED how positive and thankful he was when he could’ve been depressed and grumpy. And when the possessive alpha side of him comes out....
“Come by after the party and I’ll show you just how nasty I can be.” I lean forward and nip her sexy red lip. “I will blow your fucking mind, baby.”
description
I never knew tender & sweet could be mixed with dirty & delicious so perfectly.

Their Connection: All connections have some physical aspect to them of course, but its awesome when you read a book where you can “feel” how deep the connection is on an emotional/soul-deep level. There wasn’t ever a point when reading that I didn’t believe in them 100%, or see just how connected they were. It’s as if their sole purpose on earth is to be exactly what the other needs in this life....
“Fuck, Penny,” I growl. “You undo me.” She works her hips, a loving smile on her face. “And you fix me. What a pair we make.”
....it was beautiful.

How it made me feel: This entire series has been filled with really tough situations that played with my emotions.....but this one was on a whole other level.
description
Zella and everything related to her deserves it own emotional trigger warning....
I crave for one sound. Her breathing. I’ll live with the maddening sounds that plague me if I can just have that one.
.....it’s one that’s both a struggle to get through but also the most rewarding by the conclusion. And Penny......she may not go through any more than her sister or Roux, but it’s the aftermath of every time she’s forced to fight that broke me.
A slight tremble. The softest, most heart-breaking sob I’ve ever heard.
There was just something about seeing how strong she was even in the weakest of moments that had me crying more than she ever did.

Support Characters: Something I’ve brought up before is the amazing job she did with her support characters...every single one of them was special enough to have me willing to beg & plead for their own installments or spin off series. Jace being my fave.....not only is he my definition of a bad for me wet dream, he’s hilarious.....
“I don’t even have to tell you the laws you violated that could put my practice in jeopardy.” “But he wants to name them all,” Jace taunts. “I can see him reciting them in his head. Come on, Gary, tell us all about the penal codes—”
....and his bond/friendship with Penny was one of the highlights of this book for me......
“We’ll make him pay,” he assures me. “We’ll do it together.” I sniffle and nod. “I knew I could count on you.” “You always can.”
description
I also LOVED Garrett but have a feeling where his story is headed, as well as the “Queen” Tierra and my favorite flirt Loden.....
“Missed you, Chocolate Crunch.” “Fuck off, Lo,” I mutter, throwing a playful punch at his arm. “You’re just pissed you can’t have this.” I make a show of grabbing my nuts. He laughs. “I have you all the time in my dreams. You suck dick like a champ.”
description
They all felt like a crucial piece of the series which isn’t something I can say about every series I’ve read.

Overall Series/Character Growth: I have truly enjoyed experiencing these characters stories, getting to witness each of them grow and find their version of HEA while staying a close knit family. To see where they all started to where they are now, I genuinely was invested in their happiness and lives and it felt rewarding when it happened.....
“I can’t believe this life is mine,” he says, his voice soft and unlike anything I’ve ever heard from him. (Roan)
description
Some series the characters never really “grow” until we get the epilogue 10 years later, fortunately Webster let us in on it all. But the one character that had the best development/growth is hands down Garrett. To be someone I hated at the start to end up one of my most beloveds....I loved how involved and supportive he was to all those he considered family, and the fact that his BFF & roomie is an ex-con was just the icing on the cake.

The Storytelling: You know how even the best of reads sometimes have you checking your progress and how long you have left? This wasn’t one of those books for me. I never got bored or felt like it was dragging....never felt like there were filler parts or something was just there that wasn’t absolutely necessary....every moment of this book felt like it was authentic to these characters and the journey they were on. It also needs to be mentioned how incredible it is that Webster included a diverse group of main characters.....from our MM couple, to our Latino male lead Jordy, and now to our interracial couple Terrence & Penny. I loved that love doesn’t have a set “look” for her, she created more reality-based characters and couples....
description
...I was totally with it.

The Verdict:
description
This was my first series of Webster’s and it feels almost impossible to say goodbye to these characters. When a fictional series that spans over only a few months is able to dig its claws in you like Hood River Hoodlums did to me, you have to know how special and rare it is. It took a single book for Webster to snag my attention, two to keep it, and by the fourth I was on the verge of “Stan” territory bc that’s how gifted this woman is with her storytelling. If you haven’t gotten lost in the world of Hood River & the Hoodlums, don’t wait any longer.....this is a series worthy of your attention & devotion.

“Unlike the storybooks, mine ends with a mouthy knight who slayed the dragon to save a princess for her beloved king. It’s not like how most stories go, but I wouldn’t change a goddamn thing about it.”

I didn't want it to end! HOODLUM FOR LIFE!

Penny was different. That mean and cruel exterior was just a shell to protect her soft inside. She's not your average girl. An athlete, tough, but protective. She loves hard, but hides that side of her. I adored her feistiness. She was an interesting character to add to the mix and she was great.

Terrence is still recovering from his life changing accident. He's floundering and trying to find his way. Taking the job as the girl's basketball coach will give him purpose. The only problem with that is having to work with Penny. She's the star player on the team and she is not going to make his life easy.

Terrence "sees" Penny. He notices the little things about her, the things she hides. The more he learns, the more his attraction grows. However, she's forbidden fruit. She's a bit younger and happens to be Hollis' little sister. The attraction is real and intense. He wants to walk away, but she makes it impossible. These two just sizzle right off the pages! Holy Alpha HOTNESS!

Quite a bit goes on in this story. Terrence makes a discovery that will change his life. Penny is willing to do whatever it takes to help him, even if it means risking her life. Our favorite characters will appear throughout and watching their relationships mature is such fun. The banter and love they all share is what family is all about. Some by blood, most by choice. The love they all share is apparent and that was one of my favorite aspects of this series. Even though this series is coming to a close, I am hoping to get some spin offs with the side characters as they have their own story's to share. A great series that is HOT, emotional and at it's core it's about family. The perfect series to BINGE.

“𝙎𝙩𝙥 𝙩𝙖𝙡𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜.”

This town. This family. The whole thing. I am forever in love with this entire crew.
They are brave, loyal, their love is unending, and their friendships know no bounds.
Smash & Zero were an achingly slow burn goodness that I didn’t know I needed. But while I was waiting for the steam, they were forging a relationship that was gonna last a lifetime.
Mix that in with the chaos that Hood River seems to breed, along with some Hoodlum vengeance, and what you wind up with is a masterpiece.

Hood River Zero Forbidden friends to lovers romance Penny and Terrence’s story and also the last book in this amazing series. If you’re as heartbroken as me this is over take heart because Ms Webster in her awesomeness said she’s going to give us more! On this last note my greedy mind got some rest because I’m not ready at all to let go.

I knew book 4 would be the end of me, and yet I wasn’t even half ready for the annihilation this brought about. Penny has soon become one of my favourite heroine of all time, loved her from when I first met her and gave her my total devotion by the end of this adventure.

“Sometimes a hero can be both a knight and a queen. My Penny is.”

Yes!!! She is that and so much more 🧡

If you haven’t started this series yet, don’t wait any longer! All books are out so you can binge read and enjoy the whole adventure.

"Stop Talking"

Penny was one of my favorite characters in this series. She's sassy take no crap heroine. Favorite say "Stop talking". Terrance is also another on the top of my list, scars and all.

Penny goes out of her way to help Terrance with Zella. I did not like how he acted when he found out what she had done but in a way can understand it. Their love is special and strong as they help sooth each other.

Can't wait to see who will be next in the Heroes.

Hood River Zero By K. Webster, is Book Four in the Hood River Hoodlum Series.
Book One: Roan and Hollis Story..
Book Two: Jordy and Roux Story..
Book Three: Cal and Charlotte Story..
Book Four: Terrence and Penny's Story..

This is Terrence's and Penny's Story!
This is a series that needs to be read in order as some of the storylines overlap with other books and to be honest to experience this series in its best form, you need to start from the very beginning and find out how everyone got to where they are. Each book doesn't start off easy, its rocky and full of so much heartache and turmoil but in the end its a reality of what relationships are and sometimes you need to face what you have faced to get to where you are at this current moment.

Starting this series, I had no idea what I was up for but let me tell you. This series was phenomenal and had a way of seeking solace deep within me. It was like I felt all their heartbreak, pain and love all at the same time as they did. These books were Everything and if not more, they just kept getting better and better as they were released. I kept saying, this book was my favourite, that book was my favourite but in all honesty they were all my favourites. It was just that some stood out more than others.

With that said Hood River Zero is one my favorite's in this series for that very reason. We've already had twists, turns, family heartache and so much love between all of the Hoodlums now that we come to the finale. We now are centred around Terrence and Penny's Love Story.
"This is not a love story, it's a story about love".

Those of you who have read this series, You may remember from the ending of Book Two where Terrance was in a horrific accident. Terrence is now living with the aftermath effects of that accident, The physical pain, the mental anguish, depression, how to put his life back to together again, etc...
"His no longer the charismatic, Hot Playboy Hoodlum anymore. His irrevocably altered, damaged both inside and out. He Can't Think, Can't Function and Can't Live".

"Terrence is a one in a million type of guy. Fierce and caring and sexy. He loves with his whole heart and isn't afraid to show it.

Until his life takes an unexpected turn, things starting looking up and a mystery of a little girl that could be his presents himself into his life. But then Penny changes things, she's Mouthy, Mean, Beautiful, she's the girl who complicates everything but she sees his darkness inside that he tries to hide. She Pokes, Prods and Infuriates him.

Penny is the one person who kept things real as fuck and never let him feel weak and for that Terrance was grateful. It also made him gravitate towards her. He appreciated her most brutal honesty and somewhere along the way his feelings for Penny began to change.

Penny, is the younger sister to Hollis. From the moment we met Penny in this series, I completely loved her, she was my complete girl crush. She is actually someone that I aspire to be, her lack of filter, how she never takes shit, even her zero fucks given attitude whilst holding two middle fingers up in the air.

In this book we saw a side of Penny that was honest, but brash, but also in that honesty she cared. She was the one who eventually brought Terrance out of his dark mood following the accident and for that all of his friends are forever grateful to her. A friendship begins between them and then something more. Something Penny never expected for herself as she's never been attracted to anyone and Penny never really thought of herself to rely on someone until Terrence showed up.

"Noises. I Hate them. Breathing. Coughing. Sneezing. Tapping. Snapping. Crunching. Chewing. But when it comes to Terrence. I don't hate his noises at all.

Out of all of the Hoodlum books, Hood River Zero is the least angsty between the characters. Their love story involves two broken people trying to figure out their place in each others lives. I am not saying that these two don't face challenges along the way, because boy did they. Some of the twist and turns absolutely shocked to me to my core and made me question how these characters are still managing to keep standing. In the end, these two couldn't be anymore perfect for each other, their story may have been perfectly imperfect but sometimes that's the way it has to be.

They truly belong together, they are match made in heaven, two peas in a pod. To be honest, all these descriptive words sum them up.

Hands down, this series is it. If you are looking for your next read, make this it. This will quite literally tick all your boxes and gives you a piece of everything that you love in your books. Each Story I will remember and each character will live within me.

"Unlike the storybooks, mine ends with a mouthy knight who slayed the dragon to save a princess for her beloved king. It's not like how most stories go, but I wouldn't change a goddamn thing about it.

I actually ended up really enjoying Hood River Zero by K. Webster. This is the last book in the Hood River Hoodlums series, and is about Terrence, the last Hoodlum, and Penny, Charlotte and Hollis's youngest sister. This series is NOT a standalone series, and you need to read each book in order. This takes place right after the end of Campfire Chaos. Terrence has woken up from his coma and is healing from his car accident. When at the doctor's, he sees a little girl who looks like him, and realizes he has a kid he never knew about. Now, he needs to find Lacey, the mother, to see if it really is his kid. Penny is the prickly and strong sister, who doesn't take sh*t from anyone. She ends up being targeted by Ryan, the r*pist who assaulted Charlotte, 's friends. They end up assaulting her and she needs to deal with them. Penny also focuses on basketball and helping Terrence with his kid. Penny and Terrence have a good friendship, but they slowly start to have more feelings for each other. Penny hates sounds and she struggles with dealing with her disorder alone. Terrence seems to understand her the most and she can be around him.

There was a lot of suspense in Hood River Zero. Penny gets tangled up in Terrence's daughter, Zella's, family issues and the mystery surrounding Lacey and her father. On top of that storyline, there's also the issue of the group of boys who have targeted Penny. The overall storyline was much better and tighter compared to books 2 and 3 in the series. I really enjoyed seeing Penny and Terrence together, who had a great relationship. They were both so strong, but helped each other when they were struggling. I loved Penny's strength, she's definitely one of my favorite characters from the entire series. It was fun to see the entire Hood River Hoodlums crew and what everyone was up to. The other couples all had new developments in their own lives. I really liked Tierra, Penny's BFF and Terrence's cousin, and I hope we get her story. Overall, I did enjoy this book. I will say I was tired of reading the same similar plots, where the girl in each book ends up being assaulted or r*ped or targeted in some way. And the fires that happened in each book. But this one focused a lot more on Zella and I really loved her. It also focused a lot on Penn and Terrence's relationship and their own struggles.
TW: sexual assault, attempted r*pe, assault, child abuse

Where do I begin? K. Webster has done it yet again!

There was suspense, action, romance, twists and turns, emotions running wild. Everything you'd want in a book!

There was...

Never. A. Dull. Moment.

I just kept reading, on the edge of my seat, sleep? What on earth is that sorcery?

This is the fourth book in the Hood River series, but also a standalone. I was kind of worried to read it, seeing as I haven't read the other three yet, but I found I really wasn't missing so much that I lost the whole story-line (however, there were a lot of things that seemed to be overlapping from former books). If anything, this has made me more determined to get my hands on the others in the series ASAP.

Penny was so a unique character with all of her quirks- she hates noises, not a fan of touching, even talking. She's sassy. She's blunt. But when you get to look underneath all of those layers? She's even tougher than she appears, yet we find vulnerability and that she suffers from a condition, she's utterly loyal/protective, and just so much more.

Terrence endured something so terrible, but still came out swinging. And he's certainly dedicated to peel the layers and break down the walls Penny English has put in place.

At the beginning of this book, it hasn't been long since Terrence James has made is out of his coma. Life looked pretty bleak; but Cal found him a job, not because of money, but to bring Terrence back to them. Looks like he was going back to high school... as a gym teacher for the girl's basketball team. He starts spending more time with Penny, even though he probably shouldn't- at least not yet; however, she gets under his skin.

Terrence and Penny loved each other so fiercely. Being with Terrence helped her and vice versa. They were perfect for each other.

Soon, we find out that he has a daughter, and Penny takes it upon herself to look out for Zella without telling anyone. She didn't want to ruin his chances for custody. He also has been trying to find Lacey.

Penny also gets into some bad situations involving some people that ran in the same circles as Ryan as well as Lacey's stepfather, Jack.

I don't want to give too much away, and I'm gonna come back and add more later but right now, I'm just gonna go recover from this book and catch up on some sleep now. Also, buy this damn book and read it. It is so worth it.

P.S. - I saw that note at the end... I can't wait for the spin-off series, Hood River Heroes. I need it in my life now.

❤~🌟~❤ 5 KNIGHT PENNY STARS! ❤~🌟~❤

“This girl is going to wreck me in the best possible way.”

K. Webster blew me away with HOOD RIVER ZERO, the fourth and final installment in Hood River Hoodlums. I must say that I have adored each and every book in this spectacular interconnected series but the anticipation for Penny and Terrance’s book was palpable after the ending of book three!

PREMISE:
Terrence James recently awoke from a coma after sustaining grave injuries from a grisly car accident that rocked the entire town. Although he’s gotten a second lease on life, he’s far from healed and his life has been forever altered, both physically and emotionally. To add fuel to the fire he recently discovered that his former hookup, Lacey, who fled town unexpectedly without a word, had his baby girl, Zella in secret and the sad eyed preschooler has been staying with her creepy grandfather. Now he is geared up for the battle of his life to ensure he’s a part of his newfound daughter’s life.

But that’s not the only fight he is facing because when he lands a plum job as the girls’ basketball coach at the high school, it puts him in the path of a TEMPEST aka star player Penny English. The ballsy, bratty “mean girl,” is his worst nightmare and a total thorn in his side! She mouths off—and challenges him--at every turn, giving him all kinds of hell, refusing to let him sulk over his physical limitations or stew in his misery. But then against his will, she crawls under his scarred skin and into his splintered heart, resuscitating his life in ways he cannot comprehend.

As it turns out Penny might all bark and no bite because beneath her b*tchy put-downs and hot and cold attitude is a screwed up girl who is harboring a heart full of hurt and hiding deep dark secrets of her own. He’s determined to crash through her walls and reach the secretly vulnerable girl who just might be just what the doctor ordered for this broken hoodlum! So while “Mean-ass” might be a “head case” who drives him insane, she’s HIS and he wouldn’t have her any other way! But mystery and mayhem abound in Hood River and as he races against time to locate his baby mama, Penny is targeted by some old enemies who are out for vengeance. Can Terrence and his fellow Hoodlums band together to help ensure that he and Penny get the happiness they so richly deserve?

MY MUSINGS:
Wowww! This emotionally wrenching, forbidden love tale about two scarred souls who together make a perfectly imperfect whole was WILDLY ADDICTIVE and ALL KINDS OF WONDERFUL! From start to finish, HOOD RIVER ZERO crushed my heart, made my girly bits tingle, and gave me the whole gamut of feels!

Sigh. The Penny/ Terrence union contains everything I covet in a NA love story. Chock full of angst and scorching passion, pain and suffering, hope and heartbreak, it left me reeling....and begging for more! The character development is as gripping as the fast paced, nail biter plot, boasting two dynamic, refreshingly unique protagonists who captivate and beguile you from page one! And while typically I am all for the BBF—and BELIEVE ME, Terrence in all his sweet and big-hearted alpha maleness is all kinds of delicious—IMO our KNIGHT PENNY totally stole the show in this book. Both these characters have deep seated issues, Penny even more so than our boy Terrence, and she’s a true force to be reckoned with! On the surface she’s mean and mouthy, emotionally volatile and wildly erratic but deep down she’s also fearless and brave, sensitive and loyal, kind and sweet and incredibly loving.

Bottom line? Penny is not all that she appears and beneath her sharp tongued barbs, balls of steel and flippant, standoffish attitude is a “broken and flawed and barely functioning” girl who is wired differently. Not only does she detest noises and recoils when she’s touched but she has suffered in silence all alone. But one man cracks through her hard veneer; smooths over her jagged, sharp edges, and taps into the real wounded girl underneath. Terrence. But omg she sure does not make it easy on him along the way!

And in turn she makes him feel strong and virile, something he DESPERATELY needs after his life-altering accident. The feisty, scowly blonde is the only one who doesn’t walk around eggshells around him, or make him feel weak and feeble as he embarks on his long and arduous road to recovery. Landing a job as the high school basketball couch does a world of good for his self-worth as does the red hot passion, aching tenderness and ferocious protectiveness she arouses in him but not all the hoodlums are happy about this unorthodox coupling. Because becoming romantically entangled with the youngest English sister is all kinds of forbidden and goes against the Hoodlum bro code. But severing ties is not an option because this beautiful, crazy, surprisingly sweet and lovable girl is like the air that he breathes and he is not letting his little “mean -ass” go even when she tries her darnedest to push him away! Plus time and again she proves to be his true champion as she risks it all to help “Smash” claim his daughter and supports him in her own unique Penny way while he struggles valiantly to rebuild his life.

Ultimately, against all odds, these two kindred spirits are each other’s sweet salvation! Terrence is the calm in her storm of chaos and yet at the same time Penny is his safe harbor too. Gah! The soul deep bond that these two forged throughout was beyond exhilarating—the slow burning passion growing between them blazes like an “unstoppable inferno” —but they also had me blinking back tears as well because Ms. Webster does not throw any punches in the angst department! However, even though these two have both been through the wringer and still have demons to eradicate, together they prove to be stronger than they ever imagined.

As with all the books in this series, the side characters are an integral part of the story, driving a lot of the action. I love how all the events of the first three installments come to a riveting head in this book. And eep…let me just say that the bad guys get their richly deserved comeuppance in the nail biting, pulse pounding climax!

“You f*ck with the Hoodlums and the Hoodlums f*ck” you back.”

Also just like with the previous installments, there is some dark subject matter (so heed the trigger warnings) and there is also quite a bit of unpredictable twists and turns throughout as well. But reset assured all the secrets and subterfuge, pain and pathos are worth it in the end because the denouement is EPIC!

BOTTOM LINE:
K. Webster penned a pitch perfect ending to Hood River Hoodlums with this unforgettable finale! HOOD RIVER ZERO is an inspiring story of the healing power of love, and is a true testaments that even the seemingly “broken” are infinitely brave and utterly shatter proof! HOOD RIVER HOODLUMS is now officially a top fave NA series of mine and I am tickled pink that the author has a spinoff series in the works!

So many times when reading series you wonder how can the last book get better than the first 3... especially when the MCs are usually the minor characters in the other books. Well let me say that my friend K Webster (she doesn't know it yet but I'm making bracelets b/c I seriously love her) never disappoints. Hood River Zero follows our favorite smartass Penny and our broken boy Terrence. If you have not read the first 3 books... go away... seriously, you have to read these in order to get he full experience. Anyway, Penny is so much more than we know and expect. Yes we know that she has ZERO filter but she is such an amazing character. Her personality goes way beyond her snark and when you see her heart you are just drawn to her. I have found my new book girlfriend and I don't care what mean nickname she gives me. This girl is fierce and is the knight in shining armor. Terrence is also so much more than you think. This guy went through hell... literally he almost died in the previous books but he came out a better man. This story is one of finding your person and the sacrifices (no matter how terrible the idea is) that you make for those you love. What I love about these books is that these Hoodlums are the exact definition of family. They have their biological families (some of them more than others) but they have built relationships that transcend blood.

So this book has some amazing supporting characters... Tierra (Terrence's cousin/Penny's BFF) she needs a book... I need to know about this girl and her penchant for older men. Garrett (Penny's Dad) I think Wannabe Mayor should be named Captain Save Hood River... he is like Captain America for this group. You need money... Call Gary... You need a lawyer... Call Gary... Get your ass beat... Call 911... no not really just call Garrett. I need him to find love. In HRR, I was not a fan because he was horrible to his son but... if he didn't do what he did then we wouldn't have a series. Jace (Penny's Pet) I love this adorable ex-con... his relationship with Penny and Garrett is the stuff I love. He is a fierce protector who is not afraid to admit that he was a bad dude and he has changed. I need for him to find a lady but she has to bring the spark not just her body.

Now I guess I have to go back to the real world... unless I can find a way to transport to my new favorite world...

I love these Hoodlums! EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM! What once was four bad boys turned into a whole big happy family of Hoodlums and I loved every single bit of this crazy and delinquent ride! I first read the of these Hood River Hoodlums back in the Bully Me anthology, where Webster introduced us to Roan, his sister Roux and his crew along with Hollis and his family who were new to town. I loved every little tidbit of this crew that K Webster threw at us in that anthology, so much so that I’ve anxiously awaited every single release for this series since then.

We first met Penny (Hollis’ little sister) back then but we didn’t really get too much of her until Campfire Chaos. NO LIE, immediately I fell head over boots for that girl and her smartass, dry humor that helped poor Terrence overcome a situation that was completely out of his control.

After an absolute horrendous situation leaves Terrence fighting for his life, there’s one girl who won’t let him retreat into the darkness of his mind. She is there every time with her wiseass cracks that keeps him from closing the world around him out. However, my heart really melted when he took the time to get to know her, her quirks and what she needed too. Seeing Terrence embrace who he is meant to be after all the curveballs that life threw his way will leave you a little emotional and feeling a whole lot in love with this transformed hoodlum.

The best parts are when you see the sacrifices each are willing to and do make for each other and their closest. Webster brings danger back to the Hoodlums but this crew is the best at taking care of their own. This series makes me feel like I need more and more Hoodlums from Webster. Maybe she’ll keep this world going on and on and on. We can dream right?!!

This was such a beautiful, intense and emotional romance. Terrence and Penny's story serves as the final book in the Hood River Hoodlums series and if you haven't read any of these books, you need to remedy that right NOW!! This town, these characters and the epic love they find are EVERYTHING!!! Each book and its featured couple will totally capture your heart, touch your soul and have you firmly convinced that nothing can top it or compare to them and that holds true (at least until you read he next book in this series and another couple steals your heart). I highly recommend that you read all these books and in order because characters are introduced and reappear and events occur that have long-lasting ripple effects throughout the series. As for this specific book it was even better than I had anticipated. Penny and Terrence were unique characters that each had their own issues and own struggles to deal with. I loved the connection, chemistry and banter they shared. They inspire so many feels as their relationship evolves. They are complicated and flawed and I absolutely adored them. I have to say how much I admired their strength and I want to go "on the record" that I firmly believe that Penny is one of the bravest and most heroic warriors I've ever come across in any book. The story itself is gripping and will have you wanting to keep reading no matter what else you are supposed to be doing. It offers a well crafted blend of drama, emotion, tension, action, danger, suspense, humor, heart and steam. You definitely need to read this series because the characters feel like family and the setting feels like home. This is my sincere review that I am posting of my own accord.

Penny and Terrance have such an amazing hate love relationship during this book. The name calling, the dry humor with each other.... they just seemed to get each other and I loved it. I wouldn’t call it hate really, more like understanding, that comes off as dislike when it’s anything but. We have two strong and amazing characters that you can’t help but love. We have known these two since the start of the series and we got to watch them both grow into amazing people.

Penny broke my heart with everything that she has felt with in life and the fact that she finds it so hard to open up to others. I love that she did what she did though. It showed her amazing heart. All the characters from past books played a big part in this book but didn’t over shadow the main couple. The author is always amazing at doing this and it’s why she is one of my favorite authors. Her writing is beautiful, keeps me hooked and makes me with that books never end. This book was no different. I’m really sad to see the end of this series but I’m really excited for what’s to come. 5 stars #2OCCJD

Penny has been my favorite side character in all these books, so I was soooooo happy for her to be the focus of this book. She really deserved to be the focus for once.

I really liked learning more about her, and seeing what makes Penny Penny. There's a lot going inside that young woman. She is very complicated and thinks that she's broken, but she really isn't broken. She's also very smart and very loyal. Once you are inside her circle, you're in there forever, and she will burn down the world for her.

I like all that Terence has gone through and how it has made him stronger. It takes him a minute to realise it, and it takes him a minute to realise that he needs to be doing more, and Penny is good for that for him.

Fantastic book with a great couple.

I have to admit after each book I read in this series I am like that is my favorite, but Hood River Zero is by far the best one! The underlying vulnerability in Terrance and Penny makes them the perfect fit. Both of them are like to puzzle pieces that just snap together to make the perfect picture.
This storyline will make you laugh, cry, get angry and swoon. The roller coaster of emotions is totally worth it!
These Hoodlums have got to be the best series that K Webster has done. They are family by choice, not only blood. Hoodlums = loyalty.
I am so excited that the world of Hoodlums is not coming to a rest. I can't wait to see where these side characters will lead.
