Brigs Ferry Bay #1

Sheriff's Secret

Rate this book
From USA Today bestselling author K Webster comes a steamy and emotional MM romance!

When you’re the sheriff of Brigs Ferry Bay, certain things are expected of you.
Marry a local girl, settle down, have a few kids. You know, the small-town dream.
But I’ve got a secret I’m terrified will get out.

I’m gay.
Not bi. Not curious. Not confused.
Just gay.
So, settling for that dream won’t be happening.

If this secret gets out, the people I serve and protect, especially my father, won’t be accepting.

I’m not brave like my high school sweetheart, Kian.
The day he came out was the day I had to let him go, and with it, love.

I’ve done a great job of pretending I’m perfectly fine being single. Until a villainous and annoyingly charming new B&B owner, Dante Kincaid, rolls into town. The spark between us is electric and undeniable. He wants to give me a taste of what he has to offer, and better yet, he vows to be discreet. I’m too selfish to refuse.

But my secret is still a heavy burden, leaving me handcuffed to expectations and unable to fully grasp what I want—him. History has a way of repeating itself, but this time around, with Dante, it’ll hurt a lot worse.

I have to decide if I’m going to let love slip away again or if I’m going to finally fight for it.

***Brigs Ferry Bay is a steamy MM romance series. While each book can be read as a standalone, in order to get the full experience, they're best read in order. Enemies to lovers, friends to lovers, hurt comfort, age-gap romance, and so much more. Fall in love with the charming small-town gay romances of Brigs Ferry Bay...***

Sheriff's Secret is proof that K Webster is extremely versatile and can skillfully write multi genres. From dark, taboo or erotica, this time she delivered a sexy contemporary romance that had me grinning and swooning the entire time. I adored this. If the following is appealing, you gotta read this!

🍆 Small Town Romance
🍆 Enemies to Lovers
🍆 Unrequited Love
🍆 Closeted Sheriff who needs to get laid
🍆 Two Alpha Gay Men ~ who will come on top?
🍆 Sexual Awakening

Jaxson is the sheriff of Brigs Ferry Bay. Following a tradition ingrained by his father, he wears his obligations like a noose around his neck. Unhappy, he is so deep in the closet, Jax spends his life trying to convince himself that he could be straight. That is until New Yorker Dane Kinkaid sets foot into his sleepy town, and blows his delusions to smithereens.

"Denial is a mean bitch," I rumble. "Who are you if you’re hiding the most important part of yourself?"

Dane is in the process of opening a B&B with his siblings. He knows better than most how unwelcome small town folk can make city dwellers feel. But he's here for good and comfortable in his sexuality. So you can imagine how shocked he is to learn that the uptight gorgeous sheriff is gay, well behind closed doors. And he's taking great delight in provoking the good sheriff...

"I know you’re a closet gay." His hot breath tickles my ear as he leans in behind me.

"Fuck off, Kincaid."

"We could fuck off together." His finger once again teases down my spine. "I could mellow that attitude for you."

It was meant to be a fling. Both Jax and Dane knew the score. Except their chemistry is explosive, and they're perfect for each other. They both have their own reasons for nothing permanent, but neither can stay away. Will Jax be able to embrace who he really is and have it be acknowledged?

I must be drunk because rather than dropping to my knees, my lips crash to his, eager to taste this unexpected sweetness from the salty man. And, fuck, is he sweet.

What can I say? This was so damn good. From the ensemble of side characters, two gorgeous men with big hearts and big appendages, hot times in private and just a story with alot of charm, this was a winner!

I had high hopes for this book: small town, closeted sheriff, enemies-to-lovers. Unfortunately, Sheriff's Secret was not a win for me for a multitude of reasons.

For one, the writing is overwrought. The author has never met a modifier she couldn't dangle (e.g., "It's his favorite event despite being vegan." The event, a lobster crawl, is not vegan; the person is), and instead of using dialogue to convey emotion, she falls back on verbs and adverbs that TELL, not show, us how the character is feeling. There's a lot of sassing, dark and cruel laughing, heavy sighing, hissing, groaning, urging, teasing, and so on.

The plot is as melodramatic as the writing and reminds me of early MM romance novels I read a decade ago: OTT homophobia, hate crimes, violence, one-dimensional villains. Far too many events occur that don't really contribute to the plot, and even though Jax, as the sheriff, keeps promising to catch the bad guy, we don't see any investigation taking place and things (vandalism, arson, assault) keep escalating.

I will admit that the sex was hot. Jax and Dante go at it at all hours of the day and night (no wonder Jax can't get any policing done). However, their voices are interchangeable, and they act like angry teenagers versus grown men, always growling at each other.

I hated it when Dante called Jax "boy" because it didn't fit the story. Jax is not submissive and not a boy. Jax's nickname for Dante ("big city man") isn't much better. I cringed every single time.

You know what else made me cringe? Dante and his siblings ribbing each other about sex and Dante walking in on his sister repeatedly while she's having sex with her boyfriend. I sometimes talk about sex with my friends, sure, but my BROTHER? Yeah, NO.

The ending is a HEA for the men, and the perp of the hate crimes is caught (readers can only guess the identity, as there are no clues whatsoever that would make this book a true "who done it"), but the "rainbow vigilante" is still at large.

Also, Kian and Jax were an item once, and much is made of Jax wanting Kian back. I can understand that Jax moved on when he met Dante, but I expected Jax and Kian to at least have a heart to heart and reconcile in some way. That never happens though; it's yet another subplot that dies a slow death.

This story is MUCH too long (or maybe it just FEELS long). It took me ages to finish, and by ages I mean a few days, but I'm a speedy and dedicated reader so that's a lifetime for me. I was tempted to DNF more than once.

I liked some of the secondary characters, especially Cato, but no character's personality really stood out. I'm not sure I'd read another book in this series or anything else by this author.

"Morning," Jax rumbles, his lips peppering kisses on my neck. "How do you feel?"
His concern touches me. I'm usually the one doing the caring for, not the other way around.
"Sore," I admit. "What about you?"
"Happy."

i loved Dante and Jax SO much. 🥺 this wasn't as ott as other K. Webster books i've read (and had grown used to), but i still adored it—just being able to see how Dante and Jax's relationship developed, as well as reading about the different side characters that appeared in the story. meeting so many side characters is one of my favorite things about small town romances and it was very enjoyable here. i felt so much for both Dante and Jax's pasts and how heartbreaking their experiences were, but i'm happy they now have one another to lean on. <3

although the first half felt more of a calm before the storm, the drama starts happening in the second half and, in true K. Webster fashion, it was entertaining as hell. 😭 so much jealousy and possessiveness and, to no one's surprise, i ate that shit up. 🥰

Secret Sheriff is a heart wrenching and beautiful story. My heart goes out to Sheriff Jaxson Bell. I never wanted to reach out to a fictional character and adopt him. I didn’t expect this book to touch me so personally. However, K. Webster is so talented it did affect me on that level. She never disappoints me and writes some of the best mm romance books.

Jaxson was raised to be a straight model citizen, which is expected of him from his parents. He is so far in the closet and from his happiness that it hurts. Dante is the new owner of the B&B in town. Strong and resilient. They do not hit it off at first, but the chemistry is off the charts. In the bathroom scene, I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall.

K. Webster delivers a beautiful masterpiece with steam and angst with two handsome alpha males. I read the book in one sitting, and I just couldn’t put the book down and needed to know what would happen next. We are introduced to several side characters that are funny, larger than life, and I hope to see them in future books. As much as this is fiction, sadly, parents still turn their children away when they come out. It kills me. Love is Love, and be you.

I'm a fan of K. Webster's MM, but this one isn't working for me. Honestly, it's a bit on the corny side. I'd probably be able to push through if the narrator's performance wasn't so inconsistently annoying. He switches what little distinctive voices he gives the characters, and I find his slight lisp distracting. I can only hope he is not the chosen narrator for the rest of the series.

⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱*Not Bad*⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱

The book centers around Jaxson ‘Jax’ Matthew Bell (29), the sheriff of Brigs Ferry Bay and this year’s president of the Brigs Ferry Bay Chamber of Commerce, and Dante Ivan Kincaid, from New York and the new Red Hake Bed & Breakfast owner. Jax has always followed his father's lead, as he's always looked up to him. However, this meant staying very deep into the closet, never showing who he true is and what he wants; a man. He didn't expect though, that the seriously hot New Yorker would make him want more than he believed he deserved. Dante on the other hand, isn't looking for relationship, so having a secret relationship doesn't seem like a big deal. It was only supposed to last the weekend though...

Overall, I like this book. I did however have my problems with it. Shocked, I know. I didn't like that Dante and Jax had different personalities in the beginning, only to switch. At least that's what I felt. Dante seemed so sure of himself and kinda cocky. Powerful, in way. But when he started to have feeling for Jax, he kinda changed and become more of a submissive man than the alpha male we first met. It not a bad thing, but it made him look more weak/soft than an alpha male I had in mind. The same for Jax. I thought him an alpha male with a submissive streak at first, but then he pretty much went the opposite way. Other than that, the chemistry between the two was great, the sex was hot and I liked it. I wanted more to happen within the story itself, but oh well, you can't always get what you want. I also wanted Jax to solve some of the cases himself but..... Anyways, you just have to read it yourself to get your own opinion. Oh and I should mention that I wanted Not sure if I'm interested in continuing this series though, as next book centers around Kian, who I don't really fancy.

Other characters:
The list is long so I've put it in a spoilers tag.

"I don't know where this will all go, but as long as we go together, I trust you'll take us where we need to be."
A nice little smutty book with heart. 😍😍

I loved these two alphas together! Jax and Dante had my Kindle smoldering in my hands.
"You're in charge, Sheriff." I suck on his neck until he hisses. "Lay down the law like you mean it."

The story was nothing new or original, but it was well written and the characters were believable. It felt too long in the middle, but I enjoyed those two and all the people around them, so I think I'm going to read more of the series.

“Denial is a mean bitch,” I rumble. “Who are you if you’re hiding the most important part of yourself?”

This was filled with a lot of STEAM and just the right amount of emotion.
I really had a good time reading this and was enjoying the characters too but it's just one of those books that didn't impact me in any way.

Love is love. Even if it doesn’t match up or look right. As long as the two people, whose hearts are involved, are happy, then the rest doesn’t matter.

Disappointment is what it was. Honestly I expected so much from K Webster after reading hood river rat but Jesus christ. What the hell this obnoxious book. First of all the two main characters kept calling Kian the boy toy. Honestly wtf!? He is his own damn person. The fact that Jax is warning Dante off of him is ridiculous because it not either of their damn choice! Kian is an adult who is perfectly capable of making his own damn life decisions! Including who he dates and sleeps with!

Alpha men!? More like possessive assholes who think making other people's decisions is their job. Jesus. Get a real job.

And how the hell is 'big city man' a nickname!? I mean seriously?

I don't understand why this book has such a high rating. I honestly don't. It was a complete DNF for me. But well if you guys like it then that's fine...

Overall Opinion: Hi, my name is Jenny, and I’m a romance addict that loves objectifying my alpha book heroes 🙋🏻‍♀️ Sadly, for a book that had the potential for some hot alpha-on-alpha action these two were not what I consider alpha and it fell flat. Yes, they might’ve been described as having bigger bodies and sometimes gruff attitudes — but that’s not all that makes an “alpha” in my mind! Both characters felt a little too soft in their inner dialogue and behavior at times for me to even think they had a feminine edge to it! I know I might be thought of as a sexist pig here, but I know what I like, and I like my manly men! 🤷🏻‍♀️

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Jax and Dante’s story. Jax is the small town sheriff and he isn’t interested in dealing with the new New Yorker B&B owner with an attitude that starts hitting on his ex. Dante is just looking for a casual fling and finds chemistry with the grumpy, deeply closeted sheriff and they start a hot affair. There are some homophobic crimes in the small town that hits close to home for Dante’s family, and Jax is determined to find justice while struggling with the idea of coming out to fight for his own happiness with Dante. There are some sexy times, some sweet moments, and some suspenseful scenes...and they get a HFN ending.

Point Of View (POV): This alternated between Jax and Dante’s POV.

Overall Pace of Story: Good. I never skimmed and I thought it flowed well.

Instalove: Yes. I didn’t get the progression to deeper feelings.

H1 (Hero #1) rating: 3 stars. Jax. He was alright. Kind of a mess tbh.

H2 (Hero #2) rating: 3.5 stars. Dante. I liked him for the most part. I appreciated how he cared for his family.

Sadness level: Low, no tissues needed

Push/Pull: Yes

Heat level: Good. They have some good tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but not so much it takes away from the story.

Descriptive sex: Yes

OW (Other Woman)/OM (Other Man) drama: Mild jealousy

Sex scene with OW or OM: No

Cheating: No

Separation: Yes

Possible Triggers: Yes

Closure: This ends with a cute epilogue but what I would call a HFN ending

Safety: This one should be Safe for most safety gang readers

I know too well what happens when you’re greedy over a lover.
You fell in love.
But with love always comes war.
Hearts are slain and no one wins.
Last not in my world.

Told in dual POV, 1st person, it’s the first installment in the "Brigs Ferry Bay" series and can be read as a standalone. It’s low on angst, liked both MCs. Dante is an alpha and a smart@ss but he has a vulnerable side. In the process of becoming his father, Jax is going to lose himself. Notwithstanding that he makes Dante feels insecure sometimes but he’s protective and possessive over him and I liked him for that but still he frustrated me at some points. All in all, enjoyed it and hope you like it as well!

A Heart-aching Intense Story With Emotions, Swoons, Laughs, Acceptance, Suspense, Owning up to innerself, Plenty of Steam, Love and Gorgeous HEA❤.
I loved this MM story & It's good Characters so much! Once I started, I couldn't stop until the end, DEVOURED this in 7hrs.
#My 1st by K. Webster, The Writing was Phenomenal & the Story Well-Written with All the elements I Favor. So excited for more by her!
(I took my Sweet time to write this review so that it'll own up to this amazing Must read story!)

Jaxson Bell, Growly & Protective, is the Town Sheriff. He has grown up with His parents high expectations. He's Gay but so Deep in the closet & Loneliness, my heart aches for him fiercely. He's so Scared about the opinions of His Parents & The Town fellows that he has been forgoing his own happiness for years.
Dante Kincaid; Villainous Smirk, Charming, Good to the Core; is a proud Gay & the Owner of the New B&B in the town. He had moved here from NY with his siblings, so that they can have a fresh start After the Death of their Dad. Dante's been hurt badly by Love in past, so he's not looking for it Now (or so he thinks!).

Both of our guys are Alpha+Damn stubborn & Butted head at the start *FUN*!
Seeing Jax's Protectiveness over Kian, Highschool sweetheart who's Out & Since Been J's Ex of 11 years (I think, If they were meant to be, it would've happened already) + J's Reaction To D's nearness, Dante soon figured out that Jax is gay.
~D+J's Attraction is Explosive since they met & When they finally gave in (Bathroom Scene!!😍) & all the later sexy Scenes, are Panty-meltingly Hot!
But Jax have a Secret to keep, This has to be a Secret Fling Only. Dante Agreed. But..

Dante & Jaxson fit perfectly and As they spend time together, Feelings start budding, the want for more Increases as weeks pass. The Vulnerability they showed numerous times Made me love them even more.
I adore their Siblings & The friendships, their Banters with J & D + How they figured that something was going on! (They'll find out soon *wink*)
~Siblings like alike, Secrecy, Work-Business-School, Friends & fun, Banters, Sexy times, Slumber party, The past, Care & Love..
Jax realised that he had loved the idea of Kian..But now, he IS FALLING for Dante. D is too, & even though Jax being closeted hurts him, Dante NEEDS Jax, However he gets, even if in Secret.

-Then there's the danger & Suspense element of the story, someone is targeting the Kincaids for their Homosexuality. Though most of the town people are good, there are some who give taunts. I could see why Jax's so afraid, as his parents are big Gay-haters.
The attacks on Kincaids & their business were escalating fast, it made me Fear for'em & had me on edge.-

But Dante deserves someone who isn't ashamed of his Sexuality. A fight happens b/w him & Jax (J started it!)..D breaks things off, even if it breaks his heart.
Both are Miserable. Jax isn't ashamed, He's just So damn Scared of Rejection. But for Dante, he'll be strong, be the man D deserves..If only He'll give Jax another Chance... And luckily, D does! But he needs J's Action, not just Words. ~Bar Night, Dancing, Public Making Out *😘*, Be Fearless, Dates..

Then the scenes get Heart-racing & Action packed as we find the Culprit targeting The Kincaids!
~The Attack on Fam, Scared times, Care & Being there for eachother, Blast from the past, Love Realisations & Confessions, The Search, Surprising parents, The Foe, Gunning & Justice, Truths..
The bad guy'll rot in Jail *yes!* And Now the Kincaids can finally be in peace.
I loved the Ending & how Jax officially came out! The epilogue's Swoony & Lovely❤. These two deserve all the happiness😘.

P.S. I'm so excited for Kian's Story next!

I'M MOVING TO BRIGS FERRY BAY

There's no denying K. Webster kicks off this series with a B A N G! As usual Sheriff's Secret will have readers eating out of the palm of Webster's hand and desperately wanting more.

Jax and Dante are explosive together, their relationship real, their struggles relatable and their connection palpable. Heating up the pages with their enemies-to-lovers banter, readers will enjoy witnessing the way these two men transition from in-lust to in-love.

With a wonderful cast of secondary characters, I can't wait for more small town romances, and to fall further in love with the people of Brigs Ferry Bay.

This book was phenomenal 🤩🤩🤩
You know you're reading a great book when you are so involved in the story, the characters become your friends and you cheer at their successes and cry at they downfalls...
And that's exactly what happened to me reading Sheriff's secret!!

From the beginning my heart ached for Jax and his lonlyness: he denied his true nature, his happiness because he was afraid of his family and fellow citizens' reaction.
He doesn't live, he barely survive and it's painful to look at.
Everything change when he meet Dante 😏😏
Dante is handsome, charming and a teaser 🤭
They hate each others but there is an undeniable attraction that gonna burn bright and it gonna make you sweat 🔥🔥
What starts as one-time-thing gonna lead to deep emotions, and Jax will have to find the strenght to fight for who he is and who he wanna be with...

The story get your attention from the first word.
A whirlwind of emotions keep you on the edge and make it impossible to stop reading.
Dante and Jax are well characterized, but so the side characters are.
Every action, secret, detail, characters...everything is clearly coordinated to create an amazing story, that is the perfect introduction to this new series.

So my advice is: READ Sheriff's Secret because it gonna make you smile, sweat, swoon and maybe shed some tears before a wonderful HEA 🖤🖤🖤

This is an interesting story that turned out to be a bit different than I expected.

It's amazing how a pair of two strong guys who shouldn't fit together turn out to be made for each other. I myself was surprised how well they fit together. Dante and Jax are interesting, complicated characters. They both have a complicated past that has left their mark on them and influenced their attitudes towards relationships. But I don't think they can be considered typical tortured heroes, so you won't find it here.

They share a very interesting dynamics in the bedroom. This is definitely something that sets their relationship apart from others in similar books. I like how the dynamics in their sex life translate into the overall dynamics of their relationship. They make a real pair of partners, I like how they support each other.

Jax gets deeply involved in this relationship very quickly. Maybe even a little too fast for a man who denies his sexuality. But ultimately it can be explained by his great loneliness and desperation. I also like that Dante, knowing Jax can't come out, agrees to this deal and most of the time he has no problem with it, and it's even something he needs too. They really make a great couple.

The reason Jax is afraid to reveal his sexual orientation is quite good and pretty interesting from a psychological point of view. I also like the strength with which he is able to overcome his own fears and his protectiveness towards his younger brother.

This is the beginning of the series, so we meet a whole group of interesting and very promising characters here. And while I personally prefer strong characters like Jax and Dante to Cato, for example, I think their stories will be as interesting as this one. I think I'll be reading more books in this series soon.

HOLY 4.5 stars BALLS, i love everything about this town!! *happy place*

Okay, so obviously I don’t love everything about BFB, that was my gut impulse as soon as I finished this delightful story, however, I do appreciate that Kristi made sure the town was realistically portrayed. Everything from the homophobia, to the outsider-phobia to the change-phobia to the love and quirky small-town feel of Brigs Ferry Bay was on-point. That is what made the story delightful, and the fact that as I read the story of Dante and Jax, I fell in love with what would be future main characters because I want to read it all!

I’m not going to lie and tell you the storyline wasn’t predictable, because it was, but I’m pretty sure that’s the point. Sometimes, predictability can be a very good thing because what is going to happen is not actually important; it’s the how and when of it all that is the main attraction. I’m glad for the choices Kristi made with this story and characters because it allowed me to take in all the greatness outside of Jax and Dante that we were exposed to and just bask in the fell-good of it all.

I am still amazed at how Kristi managed to keep me in such a *happy sigh* place with as much turmoil as this story held but she’s a gifted author I don’t tend to question. Her word wizardry holds to bounds. Settle back and enjoy this swoony introduction to Brigs Ferry Bay with this 4.5 official Chamber business STARS story!

Jaxson Bell is the Sheriff in smalltown Brigs Ferry Bay. He has been living his life, hiding his sexualitity and trying to life up to the rigid beliefs that don’t at all encompass love of his homophobic parents. Jaxson is gay, unable to come out,but when he falls for Dante Kincaid, for the first time is he willing to risk everything to have him in his life, free and open.

While Jax and Dante take great pleasure into each other, the string of hate crimes in the small seaside town are escalating. It seems it's not just Jax's parents who are bigots, the elderly inhabitants too are not amused with their new neighbours, “forcing the homosexual shit down our throats!”

This was another great story. I've been eagerly wanting to read this and must say that it was everything I expected from a K. Webster read. Jax and Dante's story flowed nicely, it was engaging and I couldn't put it down.

"Sheriff's Secret" is the first book “Briggs Ferry Bay” by the bestselling author K.Webster. Told in dual perspectives , get ready to meet jax and Dante!!

About a few months , I didn’t even read MM and now I am so addicted , and I am totally blaming this author! Her MM books are my Jam and there is no way I am missing any book of hers! She writes the best MM ever! This book was another amazing installment by ehr , full of romance and suspense , it quickly became a top read of mine!

Jax has always been so lonely. He is gay but can’t tell anyone. Being the town sheriff puts a lot of pressure on him and there is no way he is letting people see him in a different light because of his sexualliy. So he continues living in silence. That is until he meets Dax. Dax is his total opposite. Confident and sexy , dax just radiates hotness. He is Gay too and want Jax. But jax can;t come out of his shell , now it’s up to the hot Dante to help him overcome his fears!

This book was not just a plain MM romance! It had the extra twist and thrill that this author definitely adds in her books! Her books are crazy good and there is no way I will ever miss a MM romance by her! And so should you! A definite recommendation to all the Mm romance out there!

I’m a need KW to stick to the rivers and the lakes that she’s used to…which is enemies to lovers, young adult angst. This was luke warm at best but mostly running cold at most 🤷🏽‍♀️

The narration was meh-ish, like it could have been good but no consistency in the voice and tone for characters so I kept getting taken out of the story. This is so disappointing because I just finished Feuds and Fury which was excellent so the fact that this lacked heat is very surprising.

Life in Brigs Ferry Bay is not off to a great start.

[I received a digital arc for an honest review]

Sheriff's Secret
by K. Webster is the first book in a new shared by authors series, Brigs Ferry Bay. I went into thinking I was getting a feel good small town MM romance with emotions. That was my bad because while it was definitely emotional it was missing the feel good vibe of most MM small town romances I read. The town of Brigs Ferry has some accepting kind people but more than a few homophobic hateful folk too. I really think the book should have some trigger warnings in it's synopsis for the homophobic slurs and hate crimes that you're going to encounter in this book. You might think by this opening paragraph that I didn't like the book, but I really did I promise, it just wasn't quite what I expected.

"Giving you what you desperately need."
He frowns, his chest heaving. "What's that ?"
"Freedom to be yourself. No judgement."

Jaxson, sheriff of Brigs Ferry Bay, knows he's gay but is so far in the closet that he is hyper aware of all his actions. In highschool is best friend and first love asked him to come out, and he chose to break their hearts instead. Now as an adult he is still very possessive and hung up on his ex but can't show it which turns him into sort of an a**hole at times. But in reality Jax has a huge heart and openly cares for his friends, even if he's in the closet he doesn't treat those that are out with anything but respect. When he comes face to face with new town business owner Dante, his hold world is thrown into a spin. Now his ex isn't the first thing on his mind, he's discovering new parts of himself, and he's found someone who is worth fighting for.

"Dante Kincaid is dangerous to me, but right now I don't care. I just want him, consequences be damned."

It took me a bit to bond with Jax, and it wasn't because he was in the closet, which was completely understandable, no one should ever be forced to come out until they are ready to. For me, it was because he was so hung up on his ex and made many of his moments with Dante feel tainted with his thoughts of regret and shame. Yet even if on the outside he comes off cold he is a big softy, who can't help but adopt stray cats and loves his brother and friends fiercely.

"Jaxson Bell has the power to hurt me. I'm the idiot who's going to let him."

On the other hand, I immediately liked Dante. Dante is fun, flirty, honest and unapologetic. From the first time him and Jax meet he doesn't let Jax intimidate him and holds his own. He also handled their arrangement way better than I was while reading it lol oh how my heart broke every time Jax acted like what they were doing was a mistake.

Our kiss transform from sweet to needy almost in an instant.
"I've been dying to taste you," he murmurs in between kisses. "Longest day ever."

Together, Jax and Dante are explosive. They go from enemies to lovers with some fantastic banter along the way. Dante has a way of unraveling Jax, who is wound up so tight. Jax turns to putty around him no matter how much he fights it. There's a lot of sex in the book which was well written and hot a hell, so I'm not complaining. You could feel the instant connection between them and when it quickly becomes more than just hooking up, it seeped from the pages. Your heart goes on this journey with them, and it hurts while Jax struggles to fights his fears and find the courage to choose Dante publicly.

"I'm keeping you forever."

All in all I really enjoyed Sheriff's Secret by K. Webster. It's a steamy small town romance which heart bearing honest moments, sweet sibling relationships, and some intense harsh events which includes homophobic slurs and hate crimes. A read that will definitely play with your heartstrings.

Hot chemistry in this frenemy romance

Dante swoops into town and demolished how orderly Sheriff Kincaid’s life was...in the best of ways.

This is a book about accepting and being happy with who you are. The ripple affects can be huge.
Loved these characters with all their flaws.
They definitely worked hard for that HEA

My Rating: 3 stars
Genre MM Romance

Sheriffs secret by K. Webster is a good MM romance. There were many parts of the story I liked and parts that were extremely problematic for me. So I’m staying in the middle with my rating and giving this a solid 3 stars.

One of the things I really loved about Sheriffs Secret is the emotion behind it. Jax is extremely conflicted about coming out of the closet and his reasonings are justified. If I had parents like his I would be TERRIFIED too. Not only that, Jax feels that his job as a small-town sheriff will be severely impacted by him coming out. His feelings are definitely warranted, and I can see the fear being a real thing. Another thing I loved is that both male leads are alpha heroes . I wasn’t sure how this would work as I got into the story but was pleasantly surprised to see these two unlikely people find love with each other. Sure, it takes a LOT to get there and the book isn’t without the angst and drama, but these two worked well together.

No there are some things I didn’t like about this book and unfortunately, they left me feeling a little bored. First and foremost, Webster shows how fear is a big motivator when it comes to coming out of the closet. We all know this is a real feeling and there’s no doubt about it. For some its easier (with the right support) and for others its one of the most difficult things they will ever do. So what’s my problem with this? Well, it seems while Jax had a hard time coming to terms with his feelings and fears, everyone else had the EASIEST time. It was all very contradicting to the point of the story. For instance, Jax’s brother also happens to be gay (as well as possibly having another brother who is bisexual). Both are proud of who they are and who they love. COOL. Dante (the other hero and love interest) ALSO has a brother who is gay 🤨. Is it hard to them to admit their feelings? Nope. And two of them are in HIGH SCHOOL. I’m so confused! I didn’t like how everyone was suddenly gay and the only one afraid was the grown man, Jax. It was really weird to read about. I think its because the author seems to be conveying that it runs in the family. It LOOKS that way when its so far from the realities of it.

Another thing that bothered me about this book was the dramatic scenes (or lack of them). In the book there’s someone targeting the homosexual people in Briggs Ferry Bay and sheriff Jax says hell do everything in his power to stop it. Makes sense, right? He is the sheriff after all. However, we never see him investigating ANYTHING. It would have made much more sense for his job title in the story for him to actually do WORK. I felt like the author just let this slip to the wayside until the very end when everything unfolds in a very dramatic fashion.

Anyway, while I liked this book for the message it sends (love and acceptance) there were quite a few things that felt WEIRD to me. So, I’ll go ahead and give this one three stars. Will I read the next book in the series? Maybe. If I can be convinced its better than this one I’d give it a try but for now I’m just not sure.

“I’m not just closeted. I’m stuffed in the very back of the dark, lonely closet behind boxes of emotional baggage and sacks of fear of disappointing my father. I don’t know that I’ll ever be able to wade my way through it all just to even chance opening that door and peeking outside.”

Y’all. This book hurt my soul.
We have a man with extremely homophobic parents that’s terrified to be disowned by his family and town. He’s the sheriff. He believes once he announces he’s a gay man, his career and life will be torn away. So he keeps to himself.
Can you imagine how brutal that has to be every single day of your life?!
“Denial is a mean bitch,” I rumble. “Who are you if you’re hiding the most important part of yourself?”

A new B&B owner and his family move into town. Dante is an openly gay man. Jax and Dante have a pretty instant connection - however with Jax needing to keep things a secret, Dante is only open for a fling. Teach this “boy” a thing or two.
Sparks fly. Chemistry is off the charts.
Let me say this, something about K. Webster’s MM sex scenes are the HOTTEST fucking thing I’ve ever read. Like, I was sweating reading the sex between Jax and Dante. Holy fuck. 🔥🔥🔥🔥

This IS a coming out story. And this is a love story. It does have an HEA and NO cliffhanger.
But we also have mystery and suspense that involves some serious hate crimes against Dante’s younger brother. And with the older generation in this small town being closed minded homophobics’, it can be anyone. And it’s a race to figure out who’s damaging property and hurting loved ones.

This took me on an emotional rollercoaster for sure.
Jax has a story that’s sadly too common. Too many people are closeted in fear of coming out as their true selves due to family, friends, and society still being homophobes. It’s pretty heartbreaking reading the inner dialogue of a grown man who just wants love. That’s all he wants.
To love someone and them love him back. It’s what we all deserve.

5/5 stars. This was a must read. 💙

Holy, wow. If I could sum this book up with one, short sentence, it would be: hot with a plot.

This story has it all: two alpha males, an extremely closeted main character, an out and proud main character, angst, steam, humor, mystery, charming side characters, and an idyllic setting. It will touch on every emotion you could possibly have, and leave you thankful for it.

As surly as Jax comes off, you can’t help but love him. I hate that he has to hide the biggest part of himself, and I hate that he was born into such a controlling, homophobic family. Fear is a b!¥ch, and he’s its prisoner. That made my heart ache for him.

Jax may not have planned on Dante, and vice versa, but dang, their chemistry is hot from the first time they met, all the way through ‘til the end. The fact that they started out at odds, made it even better. You may need a fan while reading this.

Beyond the romance aspect, this book includes a series of crimes, and a race to find out who is perpetrating them. The crimes are personal for our main characters, and their effects are felt by the whole town.

This was well written, and absolutely enthralling. It is a must-read for everyone. I can’t imagine anyone not enjoying this book. I really can’t. I, also, cannot wait to read the next book!
